Bangkok
An immense, modern city packed with remote-work spots (good connection, good coffee), plus great cheap food and accommodation at a fraction of what it costs in most of the world. Walking sessions work best at night: daytime heat and humidity are stifling, and pollution, noise and traffic take a real toll on the walking experience (car or motorbike sessions are simply not viable here). The air-conditioned work spaces are a huge plus.
Neighborhoods
Nomads cluster along the BTS Sukhumvit line plus Ari; the trade-off is price versus polish versus quiet. Everything below sits on the BTS or a short hop from the MRT, and one-bedrooms along Sukhumvit start around ~$600/month.
- Ari: village-in-the-city feel, tree-lined streets and indie café culture; ~12,000–25,000 THB/month, studios from ~$400. The best-overall pick.
- Thonglor: the trendiest, with specialty coffee, restaurants and nightlife; premium studios ~25,000–45,000 THB/month.
- Ekkamai: Thonglor’s slightly calmer, slightly cheaper neighbor, with the same café density.
- Phrom Phong: polished and green (EmQuartier, Benjasiri Park); comfortable mid-to-upper pricing.
- On Nut: best value on the BTS; quieter, residential, a big expat base. Ideal for keeping the burn rate low.
Walking routes
Walking sessions in Bangkok are a night discipline: pollution, noise and traffic punish long daytime walks, but the parks open before dawn and stay open late, and after sunset the city becomes genuinely walkable.
- Lumpini Park: open 04:30–22:00, the classic 2.5 km loop around the lake.
- Benjakitti Park: ~05:00–21:00, a 2 km lake loop plus elevated wetland skywalks, beautifully lit in the evening.
- The “Green Mile”: a 1.4 km elevated green corridor linking Benjakitti to Lumpini, a continuous 5+ km park-to-park walk without touching traffic. The best voice-walking circuit in the city.
- Rot Fai Park (Wachirabenchathat, next to Chatuchak): a 2 km+ loop, far quieter than the center.
- The riverside: ICONSIAM’s promenade comes alive in the evening, and a full Chao Phraya walk can run ~7 km.
Cafés & coworking
The work spots concentrate along Sukhumvit (Asok, Phrom Phong, Thonglor), Silom–Sathorn and Ari.
- Coworking day passes: Mint Worklounge ~290 THB, Hubba from ~350 THB, JustCo ~398 THB, Common Ground ~400 THB, The Hive ~450 THB.
- Monthly hot desks: The Hive ~3,600–6,000 THB, JustCo from ~5,200 THB, WeWork ~5,500–8,000 THB.
- Cafés with seriously fast Wi-Fi: OTTO (Thonglor, ~910 Mbps measured), Sarnies (Old Town, ~630 Mbps, upstairs is fine for calls), Yellow Lane (Ari), Paper Plane Project, Le Cafe Phenix (Ekkamai, 24/7).
- Don’t plan to contract fiber yourself for a 1–3 month stay: contracts run 12–24 months with penalties. Rent a condo with fiber included and verify the real speed before booking.
- The best voice-walking circuit: Benjakitti → the elevated “Green Mile” → Lumpini, a continuous 5+ km park-to-park loop above the traffic, walkable until ~21:00–22:00.
- Land with an unlimited eSIM as a bridge, then switch to a local AIS/True prepaid SIM (~300–1,200 THB/month): you’ll want the Thai number for delivery and banking apps.
- January–March is PM2.5 season: check the AQI before long outdoor sessions and shift walks to the parks and the evening, or plan the stay outside those months.
