The nomad coding playbook

Gear alone doesn't make this lifestyle work. Voice moves the work forward while you live; focus time reviews and consolidates it. These four rules, learned on the road, protect both.

Wifi-first housing

Stable wifi at your accommodation is non-negotiable. Without it you're tethered to your phone's hotspot, which forces you to carry the laptop everywhere, the exact opposite of nomad coding. Ask for a speed test, read the recent reviews, do whatever it takes to check the connection first.

Field ruleVerify the connection before you book.

Travel slow

Minimum one month per country, ideally two. Week-long hops burn your productivity on logistics: planning the next stop, hunting housing, comparing prices. With a month or more, the first week goes to settling in and learning your surroundings, and the rest gives you a real routine: a gym, a motorbike or some way to move, your places.

Field ruleOne month minimum per country. Two is better.

The focus corner

Choose housing with a desk or a proper table. Even a simple desk mat instantly turns any table into a workstation that puts you in work mode. Pair the Mac with an iPad as an extended display for focus sessions. You need a solid base, because some work needs deep focus, not motion.

Field ruleA desk or a proper table. Always.

The third place

Cafés and coworkings matter, because not everything happens by voice. Reviewing what the AI actually built needs screen time and concentration, and the hotel bed doesn't cut it. Find a pleasant spot where you can sit and focus, ideally with air conditioning.

Field ruleScreen time deserves a good seat — and AC.
