Punta Cana

Dominican Republic

최종 검토: 2026년 9월

"Punta Cana" is the name used for the whole resort coast in the east of the country, but for living a month, life happens in Bávaro: condos with pools, supermarkets, restaurants and a public beach, 20–30 minutes from the airport. The tourist zone has its own power company, so the blackouts that shape daily life elsewhere in the country are not part of it here.

The catch is that everything is designed for one-week visitors: distances are long, almost everything needs a car or an Uber, tourist areas charge in dollars and there is hardly any nomad community. It suits you if you want the beach and stable power and are happy working from home; if you want street life, cafés and people to talk shop with, Santo Domingo or Las Terrenas will suit you better.

머물 곳

If you won’t rent a car, look in Los Corales or El Cortecito: that is where the beach, supermarket and restaurants are within walking distance. Book the first month on Airbnb at a monthly rate and use it to see whether another area suits you better. On average a furnished one-bedroom costs a month, and good places near the beach go above (rent data, July 2026).

Los Corales

The most comfortable base for a month: condos with pools a few streets from the public beach, restaurants, mini-markets and a coworking. For doing everything on foot. One of the pricier areas. Los Corales on the map · Airbnb monthly in Los Corales

El Cortecito

Right next to Los Corales, around its own beach, with shops, restaurants and more vendors on the sand. Prices similar to Los Corales near the water. El Cortecito on the map · Airbnb monthly in El Cortecito

White Sands and Cocotal

Newer, quieter gated communities with more space for the money. Cocotal wraps around a golf course inland, about 10 minutes by car from Los Corales beach; in White Sands, check in the listing how far the beach and supermarket are on foot before booking. Punta Cana Village and Cap Cana

Punta Cana Village, next to the airport, is a planned community with schools, clinics and the Galerías Puntacana plaza: tidy and safe, but with no beach on foot and 20–30 minutes from Los Corales. Cap Cana is the luxury enclave, with a marina and golf, about 30–40 minutes away. Both need a car and a high budget. Airbnb monthly in Punta Cana Village · Airbnb monthly in Cap Cana

인터넷과 전력

For a month, an eSIM is enough

Install it before flying (Holafly with unlimited data or Airalo per gigabyte) and it works as soon as you land, including for ordering your Uber. No shop and no local number.

The condo wifi

Bávaro condos usually have Claro or Altice fiber, but quality varies building by building.

  • Ask the host for a screenshot of a speed test taken in the flat.
  • Ask whether the router is inside your apartment or it is the complex’s shared wifi, split among many neighbors.

Stable power, but not cheap

The tourist zone is not on the national grid: power comes from CEPM, a private utility, and cuts are not part of daily life. What does weigh is the bill with air conditioning, and in many rentals it is extra (see what a month costs).

If you stay several months

A local prepaid SIM works out cheaper than the eSIM (how to buy one is in the Dominican Republic guide), and you want fiber already installed in the flat. For a power contract in your name, CEPM has a sales office in Friusa and applications on its website.

일할 곳

Your apartment will be your main office: pick one with a real table and a good chair, because places to work outside can be counted on one hand and are far from each other (coworking roundup, August 2026).

Cogarden, in Los Corales

Cogarden has shared tables, private offices from 11 m² and meeting rooms, with coffee and water included. It doesn’t publish rates: ask for the day or month price by phone (+1 829 471 8120). The most practical if you live in Los Corales or El Cortecito, and the place for call-heavy days.

PYHEX Work, by the airport

PYHEX Work, in Cormont Plaza II, a few minutes from the airport: meeting rooms, ergonomic furniture and hours from 8:00 to 21:00, with prices on request. It fits if you live in Punta Cana Village; from Los Corales it is 20–30 minutes.

  • Cana Work, on Boulevard 1ro de Noviembre, still appears in guides, but its website no longer works: it may have closed, so check before going.

Malls

Downtown Mall, on avenida Barceló, and Blue Mall Punta Cana, near Punta Cana Village, have air conditioning and cafés for a reading or review session.

  • For dictating, neither cafés nor malls work: the next table hears everything. Keep voice work for home or a meeting room.

이동 수단

Uber is the default

Uber works across the area 24 hours a day, and the airport has signposted pickup points at both terminals (official map). inDrive also operates in the country: check the app for drivers in your area.

  • At the gates of some resorts, taxi drivers pressure people waiting for an Uber (Wikivoyage): order it from your condo or from the street.

Distances from Los Corales

  • Airport: about 17 km, 20–30 minutes.
  • Downtown Mall and the big supermarkets: about 7 km, about 15 minutes.
  • Punta Cana Village: about 15 km, 20–30 minutes.
  • Cap Cana: about 24 km, 30–40 minutes.
  • Playa Macao: about 20 km, 20–30 minutes.

Taxis

They run on fixed per-trip rates set with tourists in mind, and most drivers carry the rate sheet. Ask the price before getting in, and which currency you will pay in.

Motoconchos and guaguas

Motoconchos (motorcycle taxis) are the cheapest option for a short hop: about from Friusa to Bávaro beach, according to Wikivoyage. Guaguas (local minibuses) run along the main avenues for very little, but with no clear schedules or stops: a fallback, not a plan.

Rental car

If you live in Cocotal, Punta Cana Village or Cap Cana, or want day trips, rent a car: international agencies (Europcar, Budget, Avis) are at the airport and in Bávaro. Ask for a monthly price, not a daily one.

On foot

Within Los Corales and El Cortecito, and along the shore, yes. Between areas, no: sidewalks come and go and the avenues aren’t built for walking.

To Santo Domingo

Expreso Bávaro leaves from the Friusa crossroads and the Verón crossroads, about three hours; be at the station at least an hour before.

The shoreline is your dictation track

The sand runs for kilometers without a break through Bávaro and the strip along the water is public, so you can walk past the resort frontages (beach guide). If you don’t live on the beachfront, use Los Corales beach or El Cortecito as access points.

  • In front of the resorts is where there are fewest people around while you talk to the agent.
  • Los Corales and El Cortecito concentrate vendors and beach bars: a firm "no, gracias" works better than starting a conversation.

When to go

  • Early, before the heat and the vendors, or late in the afternoon.
  • The midday sun on open sand is punishing: cap and water.
  • The trade wind blows almost every day: use earbuds or glasses with good wind-noise reduction.

Sargassum

Sargassum is a seaweed that arrives in mass from the Atlantic. Roughly from June to August it piles up mostly on Bávaro and Arena Gorda; from November to March the shore is usually clean, and mornings are better because hotels clean the sand early (sargassum calendar).

Other options

  • Playa Macao, to the north: a wide public beach with waves, for a weekend.
  • Juanillo, in Cap Cana: beautiful, but not freely accessible unless you stay there.
  • The shaded garden paths inside condo complexes work for walking loops while dictating in the hottest hours.

한 달 비용

Punta Cana costs more than the rest of the country for a similar standard of living: you pay for being near the beach, stable power and prices set for tourists.

A month for one person

  • Cooking at home and using Uber when needed: about , with a furnished one-bedroom at (rent data).
  • Near the beach and eating out often: it goes past quickly.
  • Similar comfort in Santo Domingo or Las Terrenas usually costs less.

What pushes the bill up

  • Electricity: in many rentals it is extra, and when it is included the landlord usually sets a monthly cap, often ; with daily air conditioning, ask what the cap is and what happens if you exceed it.
  • Eating out in the tourist areas, where restaurants charge in dollars.
  • Getting around: many Ubers a week add up; if you live away from the beach, a car is another fixed cost.
  • What brings it down: doing the big shop at a supermarket and cooking.

음식과 일상

Supermarkets

  • Jumbo and Súper Pola, next to Downtown Mall on avenida Barceló: for the big shop.
  • Supermercados Nacional, on Boulevard Punta Cana, near Punta Cana Village.
  • Iberia, in Friusa.
  • Los Corales has mini-markets for everyday things, pricier than the big stores.

Restaurants

Los Corales concentrates the options on foot: Italian, French, seafood and Caribbean cooking, mostly at tourist-zone prices. In El Cortecito, Captain Cook is the classic for lobster and fish by the beach.

Dominican food

For Dominican food at local prices, head away from the beachfront: in Friusa and Verón, Dominican residential areas, comedores (local canteens) serve the plato del día (set lunch) at midday.

Your first days in Punta Cana

Before flying

  • eSIM installed and activated before you leave: you need it on landing to order the Uber.
  • Uber downloaded with your card already added.
  • Fill in the e-Ticket, the free official entry form, and keep the QR code on your phone (entry requirements).
  • Save the condo’s exact Google Maps location and ask the host for instructions for the garita (the complex’s security booth): complex name, apartment number and whose name the booking is under.
  • Ask before arriving whether electricity is included and what the cap is.

From the airport to Bávaro

  • Uber: pick up at the signposted points of your terminal (pickup map). Los Corales is about 17 km, 20–30 minutes.
  • Official taxi: at the rank by the exit, with fixed rates by zone; ask the price before getting in.
  • Private or host-arranged transfer: ask the host for the driver’s name and phone number.
  • Rental car: desks at the airport itself; it makes sense if you will live in Cocotal, Punta Cana Village or Cap Cana.
  • Don’t accept transfer offers from strangers inside the terminal: go to the official taxi rank or your Uber.

First day

  • Test the flat’s wifi as soon as you arrive; if it falls short of what was promised, tell the host that same day, when it is easiest to fix or switch.
  • Do the big shop at Jumbo or Súper Pola, next to Downtown Mall, about 15 minutes by Uber from Los Corales; for first-night basics, the nearest mini-market.
  • Order water jugs: tap water isn’t drinkable.
  • First work morning at home; if you need a room for calls, phone Cogarden on day one.
  • At sunset, walk down to Los Corales beach through the public access and find your quiet stretch for walking sessions.

간단한 팁

  • If you won’t rent a car, look for a flat in Los Corales or El Cortecito: it is where café, beach and supermarket fit in one walk.
  • Before paying, ask for a screenshot of a speed test taken in the flat and whether the router is yours or shared.
  • Ask whether electricity is included and what the cap is: with daily air conditioning it is the line that grows fastest.
  • Order your Uber from your condo or the street, not at a resort gate.
  • In a taxi, agree the price and the currency before getting in.
  • Go to the beach early: less heat, fewer vendors and, in sargassum season, freshly cleaned sand.
  • Use the airport: PUJ has many direct international flights, which makes Punta Cana a convenient first or last month in the country.
